I am an emerging multi media artist working in metal, and mixed media on canvas. I am drawn to the diversity of working with different mediums to have the freedom to fully express any idea or concept. I create pieces in cast aluminum through an old process called sand casting. I am currently working on a series of sculptural mirror frames titled Women of the World, which focuses on different cultures in time and the women of that era. The imagery of the female form, I believe, creates a juxtaposition with the metal. It is the soft supple lines of the female body that create a contrast with the cold hard permanence of metal.
I also work with canvas incorporating everything from plaster to ancient powder pigments. It is the bringing together of a variety of elements on the canvas that make the materials as important as the subject matter. It is through these different mediums that I aim to bring texture and depth into my work. I enjoy challenges and the complexity of seeing an idea or concept through to fruition. Most of my work is contemporary abstract, with a focus on creative framing. I believe frames are an artistic extension of the piece and feel the two should work cohesively and compliment each other as a unified whole.
I work in the moment and create based on how I feel that day. Some days I work fast throwing my materials at the canvas and others I work meticulously within lines. I am constantly changing and exploring. I believe it is my abiding curiosity and desire to discover new means of expression that will keep me creating for years to come.
